With this project, the house had been recently extended and the garden laid to lawn and a swimming pool. The design brief was to soften the pool's impact, reintroduce interest and provide a welcoming approach to the house. A series of traditional terraces was sculpted using cream-coloured York stone walling, while the top terrace was softened using clipped Yew pyramids to provide a viewing platform. A stainless steel balustrade allows minimal interruption of the view onto a herbaceous border walk marked by Hornbeam pillars. This leads to the pool where an Oak loggia and walkway provide shade and seating while also creating a greater sense of enclosure. Mature Scots pines, Rhododendron and Oak woodland frame the lower lawn, with plants taking colour into the summer.
